Since every village in the Dominican Republic has its own saint, holidays are celebrated almost every week. Dominicans celebrate with singing, dancing and parade in masks. The most famous celebrations are at the end of May in El Seibo and Santa Cruz de Mago. Very interesting are myth-religious “ga-ga” holidays, taking place during the Easter time in villages in the area of sugar cane plantations. On February, you can enjoy a carnival with big parades right in Santo Domingo. or every Sunday afternoon In La Vega, where colourful parades called Diablos Cojuelos takes place. In San Pedro de Macoris parades are called Guloyas, and in Santiago masks parades – Lechones. Each region has its autentic masks and parades.
