Constanza

The city of Constanza is at its altitude – almost 1200 meters above sea level, the highest city of Dominican Republic. With about 30,000 inhabitants, it is located in a picturesque valley, in the middle of the 2000 m high peaks of the central Cordillera, located in the province of La Vega. Due to its high position there is an unusually cold climate – with an average annual temperature of about 16 ° C.

Because of the cold climate the main agricultural products are cocoa, coffee and fruit.

Constanza is the starting point for beautiful excursions to the surrounding area. We can recommend a walking tour to the 83 m high Aguas Blancas waterfall. Local guides will be happy to offer you the opportunity to see the unforgettable beauties of this area in the off-road vehicle. You can also visit the garden, the greenhouse or Las Piramides National Park.

Whoever likes a bit of history can take a walk in the footsteps of Christopher Columbus. In the nearby town of La Vega, you can see the remnants of the city’s main stones.

Constanza is the ideal place for active rest. In addition to walking tours, you can also try for example rafting. Considering that Constanza is the coldest place in the Dominican Republic, many researches related to the observation of mountain vegetation are made there. Those researches have shown that the countryside is very similar to the Alpine, located in Europe. A great surprise for you on mountain wanderings, besides beautiful views, will surely be the smell of coniferous forest.
